Why MichelleBook?

Ease of use, extending machine lifespan, attractive price/performance ratio.

Computing is becoming increasingly complex every day

At a crossroads, computing is now used in all fields, for both general and specialized needs. Consequently, traditional operating systems are overloaded with options and settings, evolving over time and through updates, making it very difficult to navigate. Despite everything, they assume that the user knows what they are doing, which creates difficulties.

In just a few months of normal use, a perfectly configured computer can turn into a minefield, requiring heavy technical intervention to restore its original fluidity.

The MichelleBook concept

The idea behind the MichelleBook is to provide an indestructible and autonomous computing environment.

Rather than trying to educate the user not to click on bad links, the system is designed to absorb errors and repair itself.

The pillars of the system:

  • Visual simplicity: a familiar, uncluttered interface where the taskbar is locked. It is impossible to drag an icon by mistake or delete the Start menu.
  • Silent security: the use of secure DNS servers (Quad9) natively blocks access to fraudulent sites before the page even loads. Security updates install themselves in the background.
  • The right to make mistakes: the "Factory Reset" tool allows, in two clicks, to revert the computer exactly to the state it was in on day one. The entire system is restored using a hidden snapshot, wiping out all mishandling in an instant.
  • Simplified support: native RustDesk integration allows a trusted third party to instantly take remote control in case of a real blockage, without having to dictate complex procedures over the phone.

Why Linux Mint?

This project is based on Linux Mint because it is currently the most mature operating system for the general public. It is immune to the vast majority of viruses targeting Windows, it does not force any online account creation to function, and its interface does not disorient users accustomed to traditional systems.

MichelleBook, for what uses?

  • For office work and web browsing on the go with a refurbished computer that limits the risk in case of breakage or theft.
  • For traveling to a country where data confidentiality is not guaranteed.
  • For everyday uses that do not require a powerful, state-of-the-art model, and where simplicity is king.
  • For people who are not very comfortable with computers but wish to be more autonomous.
